MiniProto MCP connector
MiniProto connector for AI assistants
Connect your AI assistant to MiniProto to look up harness parts, check supplied wiring, and get pricing with a link for review and checkout.
Last updated 2026-10-08
What It Does
MiniProto makes custom wire harnesses and cable assemblies. This connector lets your assistant search our catalog, check a supplied harness specification, and request current pricing. It uses Model Context Protocol (MCP) over Streamable HTTP.
https://www.miniproto.com/api/mcpNo MiniProto login, API key, or credentials are needed. The connector has no access to orders, payments, or account data. Final review and checkout happen on miniproto.com, where prices are re-checked.
Add the Connector
ChatGPT: open Plugins → + → Add custom MCP server. Enter MiniProto as the name and the endpoint above as the Server URL. Choose No authentication, review the warning, and select Create as a plugin. Find it in your personal or workspace plugins and install it before using it in a conversation. Once MiniProto is listed, you can add it from the Plugin Directory. Workspace permissions may control access. See ChatGPT setup instructions.
Claude: open Customize → Connectors → Add custom connector (under + Add). Name it MiniProto and enter the endpoint above. Continue through the detected authentication settings, choose No sign in (no authentication), and click Add. Once listed, you can also add MiniProto from the Connectors Directory. Workspace policies may control access. See Claude setup instructions.
Claude Code: run this command, then use the MiniProto tools in your session.
claude mcp add --transport http miniproto https://www.miniproto.com/api/mcpCodex: add this to your ~/.codex/config.toml, then start a new session.

Eight Tools
Search Harness Connectors
search_connectors
Find MiniProto catalog connectors for a wire harness or cable assembly by manufacturer part number, connector family, pin count, or search text. Supply an MPN when known; otherwise use family, pinCount, or q. Returns catalog IDs and housing/contact details for validation and pricing.
Inputs: Optional mpn, family, pinCount, or q; limit (1–100, default 25), offset (≥0, default 0). Text filters need at least two characters.
Get Connector Details
get_connector
Look up one MiniProto connector by catalog UUID or manufacturer part number while planning a connector pinout or harness. Returns cavity count and available housing/contact roles. Does not supply application signal assignments or a pinout drawing.
Inputs: Required id: catalog UUID or manufacturer part number.
List Harness Connector Families
list_connector_families
Find connector families available for MiniProto instant harness pricing, including manufacturer, category, and recorded AWG range. No inputs required. Use family names to narrow connector searches.
Inputs: None ({}).
List Harness Wire Options
list_wires
Find available wire families, AWG gauges, and colors for a custom wire harness or cable assembly. No inputs required. Copy returned family, gauge, and color values into each conductor’s specification.
Inputs: None ({}).
Get Harness Manufacturing Lead Times
get_lead_times
Get current MiniProto manufacturing lead-time tiers for wire harnesses and cable assemblies. No inputs required. Returns business-day ranges; shipping transit is separate. The pricing tool currently uses the default tier.
Inputs: None ({}).
Get Harness Manufacturing Capabilities
get_capabilities
Check whether MiniProto can manufacture a proposed wire harness or cable assembly, including processes, materials, workmanship practices, testing, and excluded work. No inputs required. Catalog availability and instant-price eligibility are checked separately.
Inputs: None ({}).
Validate Harness Wiring
validate_harness
Check a proposed harness’s connector references, supplied pin-to-pin wiring, wire selections, lengths, and manufacturability. Supply spec with connector MPNs or IDs, connector sides, wires, and quantity. Returns actionable errors; creates no saved design, quote, or order.
Inputs: Required spec: connectors, supplied pin-to-pin wires, lengths and quantity. See Harness Inputs below.
Price a Custom Wire Harness
price_harness
Get current MiniProto pricing and quantity breaks for a custom wire harness or cable assembly. Supply spec with connector MPNs or IDs, sides, pin-to-pin wiring, lengths in millimeters, wire selections, and quantity; optionally provide quantities for comparison. Creates an anonymous saved design with a seven-day continuation link. Returns prices, assumptions, and a link for human review and checkout on miniproto.com; places no order.
Inputs: Required spec; optional quantities: 1–20 positive integers, each at most 1000, for comparison. The spec quantity is always included.
Harness Inputs
Validation and pricing take an object with spec. Each connector has ref (exactly one of mpn or componentId) and side (left or right). Wires use zero-based connector indexes and one-based cavity numbers. Connector-to-connector wires run from left to right.
Each wire supplies sourceConnector, sourcePin, targetConnector, targetPin, and lengthMm (positive, up to 10000 mm), plus wireFamily, gauge, and color copied from the wire catalog. Alternatively, set wireProfile to standard-automotive to fill omitted wire selections; review every returned assumption.
quantity defaults to 1. Optional fields include projectName, designNotes, connector gang, and up to 50 splices with method solder or crimp. A wire end can reference sourceSplice or targetSplice instead of its connector and pin fields. See the full harness schema and API reference.

- Which connector families and wire options does MiniProto offer for a custom harness?
- Look up DT06-3S and DT04-4P. Tell me their cavity counts; do not infer my application's pinout.
- Validate and price one DT06-3S to DT04-4P harness: pins 1, 2, 3 straight through, 1000 mm each, standard automotive wire profile. Show assumptions and the review link. Do not order.
Limits and Pinouts
- 600 catalog calls per IP per 60 seconds; validation and pricing share 120 calls per IP per 60 seconds and a global ceiling of 600 combined calls per 60 seconds.
- Discovery, initialize, tools/list, and notifications do not consume these quotas.
- Maximum request payload: 256 KiB. The v1 schema allows 2–16 connectors, 1–500 wires, and quantity up to 1000.
- We validate the wiring you supply. We do not discover an application's pinout or assign signals to cavities. Use your equipment documentation to provide the pin map.
- Manufacturing lead times are in business days; shipping transit is separate. Pricing uses the default manufacturing tier.
Saved Designs and Privacy
price_harness creates a temporary anonymous saved design and returns a continuation link that expires after 7 days. Anyone with that link can open the design while it is valid. Link expiry does not promise deletion: saved designs are retained per our standard data retention practices.
MiniProto receives the tool inputs your assistant sends, an IP address for rate limiting, and a best-effort client type for aggregate counts. We do not receive your assistant account data or conversation text beyond the tool inputs. Tool-call event logging excludes inputs and IP addresses. Continuation links include utm_source and utm_medium analytics tags.
Pricing places no order, takes no payment, and reserves no parts or capacity. Open the link, check connectors, pins, lengths, quantities, and assumed wire selections, then complete final review and checkout on miniproto.com. Prices are re-checked there.
Read our privacy policy and terms.
Troubleshooting and Support
If a connector is unknown or ambiguous, search again and use an exact returned catalog ID. Correct validation errors before pricing. For rate limits, wait the retry interval returned by the tool. If the service is temporarily unavailable, retry later. If your client cannot add custom connectors, check its plan and workspace settings.
