IDC Ribbon Cable Assembly / Quote-Led

Custom Ribbon Cable Assemblies

Build prototype and small-run ribbon cable assemblies from your specified cable, IDC connectors, orientation, and finished length. No minimum order quantity.

The exact part numbers matter. Send a drawing, marked sketch, or complete build notes and an engineer will review the connection before it reaches the bench.

Quote Checklist

Define The Assembly Before We Build It

Ribbon cable is compact, but small orientation differences can change the circuit. These inputs let the quote and build record describe the same assembly.

Cable

Cable part number and pitch

Name the approved ribbon cable, or send its manufacturer part number and datasheet. This avoids assumptions about conductor spacing, insulation, and polarity marking.

Conductors

Conductor count

State the required conductor count for the finished assembly and identify any unused positions or special handling in the drawing.

Ends

Connector part number at each end

Provide the exact connector manufacturer and part number for both ends, including any mating, keying, or polarization requirements.

Polarity

Pin-1 stripe and connector orientation

Show where the marked conductor lands and define each connector view. A sketch or marked photo helps remove mating-face versus wire-side ambiguity.

Keying

Keying and polarization

Call out keys, polarizing features, ejector-latch direction, or other mechanical details that control how the cable mates.

Length

Finished length and tolerance

Define the length reference points and acceptable tolerance, especially when connector bodies or strain-relief parts affect the measured span.

Relief

Strain-relief requirement

Identify the specified strain-relief part or state that none is required. We quote the construction shown in the approved build information.

Order

Quantity and requested test documentation

Include prototype and follow-on quantities, plus any requested test record, Certificate of Conformance, labels, or packaging instructions.

Build Control

Review, Assemble, Inspect

01

Engineer review

We review the cable, connectors, orientation, length definition, quantity, and documentation request before the build is released.

02

Controlled assembly

Assemblies are built in Kingston, New York to the approved part numbers, drawing, and orientation notes using IPC/WHMA-A-620 workmanship practices.

03

Visual inspection

Each assembly receives inspection plus 100% continuity and isolation testing before shipment.

Assembled in Kingston, New York. IPC/WHMA-A-620 workmanship practices guide the work; this statement does not claim product or facility certification.

Scope

Focused Ribbon And IDC Work

This service is for parallel-conductor ribbon cable assemblies terminated to the exact IDC components in your build package. We do not substitute a generic connector family or infer pitch, polarity, or keying from a description alone.

Need a different cable construction?

Multi-conductor cable, discrete-wire assemblies, shielded cable, and other constructions belong under our broader custom cable assembly service. Start there when ribbon cable and IDC termination are not the defining requirements.

FAQ

Ribbon Cable Assembly Questions

What information do you need to quote a ribbon cable assembly?

Send the ribbon cable and connector part numbers, conductor count, pin-1 stripe and connector orientation, keying, finished length and tolerance, strain-relief requirement, quantity, and requested test documentation. A drawing or marked sketch is the clearest input when orientation matters.

Can MiniProto build one prototype ribbon cable?

Yes. Ribbon cable assembly work has no minimum order quantity, so you can request a single prototype or a small run. The quote is based on the specified cable, connectors, construction, and test requirements.

How do you control connector orientation and pin 1?

The approved drawing or build notes should identify the marked conductor, connector view, pin-1 location, and keying direction at each end. We review those details before release and verify the finished electrical paths during testing.

How are ribbon cable assemblies tested?

Every finished assembly receives visual inspection plus continuity and isolation testing. If your program needs a particular test record or document, include that requirement with the quote request so it can be reviewed and priced.

Send The Cable, Connectors, And Orientation

Upload a drawing or build notes with the exact part numbers, length, quantity, and documentation request. We will review the assembly before quoting the build.
