The Connector Families You Can Configure Online

A configurator is only as useful as the parts inside it. Since launching the new tool, the question we get most is "what can I actually build with?" Here is the current lineup, grouped by what each family is for. It is a deliberately practical list. These are families we build with constantly, not a catalog dump.

Sealed and rugged

  • Deutsch DT: the general-purpose sealed workhorse for automotive, off-road, marine, and industrial harnesses, and the place to start if you are new to the family.
  • Deutsch DTM: the compact sibling, for signal wiring and tight packaging.
  • Deutsch DTP: the power sibling, for feeds and high-current circuits.

Signal and board-level

  • Molex DuraClik (2.00mm): compact wire-to-board connections for signal runs.
  • Samtec Tiger Eye (.050 in.): fine-pitch wire-to-board and cable connections where space is at a premium.
  • Molex Pico-SPOX: small-pitch signal connections in dense assemblies.

Power

  • Anderson Powerpole and SB: the go-to families for DC power and battery connections.
  • JST VH: wire-to-board power connections inside enclosures and equipment.

Mil-spec

  • MIL-DTL-38999: circular mil-spec connectors with lettered clocking positions, for builds where cross-mating is not an option. We build 38999 harnesses to your specification and drawings.

Wire and cable

Connectors are half the harness. The configurator also carries the wire to put between them:

  • Automotive GXL, SXL, and TXL: cross-linked automotive wire for vehicle and equipment harnesses.
  • Tefzel (M22759): the wire family you will find throughout aerospace and defense work.
  • UL1007: the everyday hook-up wire for panels, enclosures, and general wiring.
  • Multiconductor cable: jacketed cable for runs that want one sheath instead of many wires.

Mixing wire families in one design is normal. Signal runs and power feeds rarely want the same conductor, and the configurator does not mind.

Coverings

Finish the harness the way it will survive in service:

  • PET braided sleeving: abrasion protection with a clean, professional look.
  • Split loom: easy to open later, for runs that get serviced.
  • HarnessFlex conduit: structured routing protection for demanding environments.
  • Heatshrink: transitions, breakouts, and strain relief.

Coverings are chosen in the same design pass as everything else, so protection is part of the harness rather than an afterthought at packing time.

How to choose

If the harness lives outdoors or on a vehicle, start in the sealed Deutsch families. If it connects boards inside an enclosure, look at the signal group. Power distribution points at Anderson or JST VH, and if your program hands you a drawing full of circular connectors, that is MIL-DTL-38999 territory. And if you are genuinely unsure, build the connection both ways. The live bill of materials makes trying two families side by side cheap.

Every family here follows the same flow in the tool: pick the family, pick the pin count, pick the exact part, then wire it into the rest of your design and watch the bill of materials keep up.
